Being Human...
What does it mean to be human in a world full of the supernatural? What does it mean to be normal without powers, the ones that are weakest in a matter of speaking. This was the question that the first humans had to ask themselves. Thought to be witches without powers more and more of them spring into being till it was clear they were a race all their own. Some choose to live among the supernaturals races relaying on their protection, others banned together to form their own societies this was how Adrealia was born, Believing in the idea of isolation in order to keep their people free and safe they closed their borders to anything not human. Even among their own people those who would be born with special powers would be cast out or killed on sight at least until the days of the Dark warrior.
It was because of his influence that they decided to use those with special powers to protect those without creating the order that in time would be known as elites. Any with special powers would be taken from their home and trained men at least female elites had a different fate. They would give up their lives in the service and protection of average humans from any and all threats but mostly from those of the supernatural kind. In exchange they were often patroned by the noble class wanting for nothing. They always had lovers willing to lne their beds it was a sort of taboo to refuse an elite though not illegal.
Females in their society were always under the protection of the men in their families. They made decisions for them and a female could not live on their own. Those without male family members would be taken in by someone or work in brothels for protection. This lead to the question what about girls with powers it was an unheard of concept to let them fight. So, they became breeders matched with male counterparts to create more elites because two elites had a better chance of having a powered child and this was their fate to produce child after child till they died or were unable to have anymore.
This was the world that Isolda Cole was born into born the youngest of two children. Her family was poor though perhaps better off than many since they had a roof over their heads even if it was small and food to warm their bellies. Her father was quite the different type never one to confirm he taught his daughter to dream big. Instilling in her a love of books and encouraging her to always speak her mind and he even did the unthinkable he hide her brother.
Her brother had special powers and should have been given to the elite order many poor families would prey for such a thing it meant that the family too would be taken care of as payment for the loss and to honor the sacrifice of the elite. Her parents believed somethings held more value like family. So, they keep the truth hidden from the world and it might have continued this way had they not gotten ill.
If they hadn't been so poor their were treatments available for what they had that could have saved their lives but they were and so they watched them die. It was a slow death and afterwards it was just her and Alaric. Her brother became her guardian and it was hard for two kids on their own. They did the best that they could but more often than not they went to bed hungry. Her brother was the most important person in her life other than her best friend, Aleksi. A bit of a rouge who ran a small band of miscreants but she found herself rather fond of him despite her brother's protests.

A Change Of Scenery...
This might have been their lives till some illness took it like their parents but fate it seemed had other plans. Her brother would get discovered and be taken after four years of them being alone to take the elite test. He had no training so his chances of passing were slim. She was so mad that she yelled at anyone who cared to listen sadly no one cared about her opinion nor the fate of a poor boy who in their eyes had shunned his duty. All she could do was wait and see. He not only passed he passed with flying colors not since the dark warrior himself had they seen such a thing. As fitting an elite of his skills he earned one of the highest patrons of all the crown prince himself--Darken.
The prince and her brother became fast friends though she wasn't fond of him. He was always throwing parties and pulling her brother into them. He had so many lovers both male and female and he just seemed not to take things seriously. It was find though because he seemed to find her an annoying child, She was also taken in by the prince and she came to live in the castle as well with her old friend popping in to visit from time to time.
As she grew older things would change Darken seemed to take more of an interest in her as she grew into a beautiful young lady. Many noticed but she would have nothing to do with it. The prince asked for her hand and she turned him down flat content to work in the library and never to wed. Her brother was beside himself not understanding why she would say no. It was a female's role to marry and marry well and how much higher could one go.

She was becoming something other than human. She knew that she could not stay in her home land they would order her brother to kill her so she choose to flee hoping that would be good enough. Afraid she ventured out on her own hoping to find what was happening to her and perhaps a new place in the world.
The answers she sought would come from the fae king himself--Irial. He told her she was becoming a fairy because she was destined to be the queen of the winter court. He was a bit surprised himself but it was not totally unheard of for someone of another species to be picked and under go a change. It was however Nature believed was right for the job and it explained why when the last queen died they had not found her replacement she had been born outside the people. Izzy was floored and wanted him to undo it but he could not he told her she had to learn to accept her fate.
She only wanted to return to her life but that was not going to happen. Her brother would come looking for her. He believed he had failed by not knowing and had to kill her. However she took him off guard by kissing him now knowing that he was the elite that had always taken her and no longer thinking like a human she no longer cared. Besides she was sort of different now. He was stunned and in the end she ended up leaving thinking they would never met again even though she believed he was her knight. So, she went on her way not sure what to do.

An Unexpected Path...
It was shortly after this she would have a most unexpected visitor. Someone she never thought to see again, the prince. He told her he still wanted to marry her and he would allow her to come back despite being changed if she agreed. He would find a way for her to serve her people and to live in her homeland. She knew that the prince had a habit of getting what he wanted but it also meant her brother wouldn't have to kill her or try to and she could see him. So, she agreed to the terms anything to be near her family.
She was unsure how it was all going to work but that was details for another day. Details they are still trying to flesh out as the world changes around them and she builds a court within the walls of the human kingdom. Not only would the human kingdom change so would the fae as her brother finally decides to accept his role because of his love for a witch named Kaleigh, the high priestess of Aine. He takes on the role of her high priest and decrees she will be the queen of the autumn fae if he is to rule.
At the same time the sister of the old winter queen declares her own court dividing the winter court as the Fae hold a meeting to figure out what all this means as they realize the structure of their courts are changing as they grow and adapt exactly how is unknown but only time will tell. During this meeting she learns the most surprising secret of all, Darken is the Dark warrior, the legend of old, having made a deal with the king to pretend to be his son. Hurt that he didn't tell her she wonders about the foundation of their relationship.
So, with all this new information she sets out to understand it all. Create her own kingdom for her fae and try and live in harmony with the humans. She will do it with the help of her brother and a man she is becoming more fond of as she struggles to tell Darken how she feels about everything and her wishes for the future.
